What are visual effects?
Visual effects are effects that combine existing video footage with computer generated imagery to create realistic scenes such as wall touch ups, logo and branding removal, and environmental effects like snow, lens flares, lightning, etc. This also includes effects produced with a green screen and chroma key (the technique used to make the green sections of the screen transparent). Utilizing all of this you can also add effects like explosions and manipulate video footage in surreal ways. Once video and sound editing comes to a close and video and sound have been finalized (locked), motion graphics and visual effects are added to a video to fill in the storytelling gaps. The storytelling aspect of visual effects means knowing where and where not to add visual effects to tell the most meaningful story. The technical aspects of visual effects include the ability to use the various softwares and being able to execute solutions to problems that come about.
Why visual effects are important.
Visual effects are a storytelling tool most commonly used to enhance the story visually. This may range from cleaning up an overexposed section of video, to adding a flash of light to mask the appearance of a new character. This could also include smoothing the skin of an interviewee or masking a stain on their shirt. Visual effects allow us to manipulate the video however we want. This can be a very time intensive and hard part of video production because of its time intensive, problem solving and creative facets. For efficiency and effectiveness we created a data asset management system that allows us to organize your story and utilize assets from any point of time. We live in the data age and everyone has their own visual data portal. We know exactly what to do with this data to produce the best results.
Visual effects are storytelling. Storytelling creates personal connection.
